Author: Peter Date: 17-09-05 05:22:35 Japan has a very rich natural fauna and flora - this is partly due to the fact that it is very geologically active. It is a very mountainous country and this creates a great variety of habitats (low to high altitude, south facing, north facing, etc.), with different geological substrates that favout different plants, and hence different animals. There are many native mammals, reptiles, freshwater fish, and so on. People in the Jomon era made good use of all these natural resources, and are thought to have been wealthy hunters and gatherers, mostly, though they did begin cultivating various plants over time. |
