Hanazumi shell mound

A Jomon midden site yielding unglazed earthenware from 6,000 years BP, along with shells, fish and animal bones. A deisgnated (protected) historic site in Kasukabe City (see location map here).

Hotto mask site

A Late Jomon site yieldinga mask. Masque provenant du site de Hotto, departement de Saitama Jomon final (1000 av. JC-300 av. JC), Musee national de Tokyo... Access details pending.

Juno site

Jomon site yielding an arrowhead with urushi lacquer attached; apparently this is displayed at the Saitama Prefectural Museum (link above). The wetland features at this site date from the latter half of Middle Jomon till the early half of Late Jomon (see The Role of Wetland Sites in Japanese Prehistory, by A. Matsui (1991) (source www.ancienteastasia.org, 28.1.03).

Shimpukuji shellmidden
